기존의 콘텐츠를 재구성하여 새로운 작품을 만드는 ‘리믹스’ 행위는 오늘날 문화 콘텐츠 제작의 거의 모든 분야에서 활발히 이루어지고 있다.


이러한 리믹스가 대중음악 분야에서 처음 시도되고 발전해왔음에도 불구하고, 다른 장르에 비해 정작 대중음악 분야에서는 이러한 원작 재구성의 원리에 대한 이론적인 논의가 부족한 것이 사실이다.
그리하여 본 논문은 리믹스 음악의 원곡 변형 방식을 분석한 결과를 정리하고, 이를 체계적으로 이해하기 위한 이론적 기반을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해 기존에 발표된 대중음악 리믹스 94곡을 선정하여 그 음악적 요소를 원곡과 비교하고, 리믹스 음악 창작의 기준으로 삼을 만한 대표적 유형을 파악했으며, 명쾌한 이론적 바탕을 마련하기 위해 문학 분야의 이론가 돌레젤이 제시한 온 원작 변형의 원리를 차용하는 가능성을 탐구하였다. 그 결과 리믹스 음악의 창작 유형은 1) 원곡의 반주(배경)는 그대로 보존하고 보컬 구성을 변형하는 ‘확장’과 2) 원곡의 보컬(등장인물)은 그대로 보존하고 반주를 새롭게 변형하는 ‘치환’의 두 가지 형태로 분류할 수 있었다. 이러한 발견을 바탕으로 파악된 리믹스 음악 창작의 핵심은 원곡의 보컬과 반주 중 하나를 그대로 보존하는 동시에 다른 요소를 완전히 변형하는 것이며, 그 결과 원곡이 지닌 아우라와 정체성을 유지하면서도 변형된 요소를 통해 원곡과의 차별성을 드러내는 것으로 정리할 수 있다.
이와 같이 본 논문에서 소개하는 연구는 음악이 아닌 분야에서 제시된 원작 변형 원리를 바탕으로 리믹스 음악의 창작 유형을 파악하고, 이를 통하여 기존 작품의 분석은 물론 신규 작품 창작을 위한 체계적인 전략을 제시할 수 있다는 점에서 의의가 있다.


The act of remixing to create a new cultural product by reconstructing an existing one is being performed in almost all cultural content fields today. Even so, although the remix concept originated in the musical field, theoretical discussion concerning its reconstruction principles in popular music compared to other genres is lacking.This paper analyzes the methods of transforming original songs in remixing. Furthermore, it presents a theoretical basis for its systematic understanding. Ninety-four previously released popular music remixes were selected and compared with the original songs in terms of musical elements, thereby identifying representative types of reconstruction as a new standard for remix music creation. This comparison is then further studied to explore whether applying analytical methods of literary works allows for a deeper understanding of the musical remix process. As a result, musical remix types were categorized as either 1) an “expansion” process that preserves the original accompaniment (i.e., background) and transforms the vocal composition, or 2) a “transposition” process that creates a new accompaniment while preserving the original vocals (i.e., characters). Based on this finding, musical remixing could be described as preserving either the vocals or the accompaniment of the original song while completely transforming the other element. Thus, it maintains the original piece’s identity and aura but simultaneously reveals the difference.
These results identify types of remixing popular music based on principles borrowed from a non-musical genre. Furthermore, they analyze existing types and suggest systematic strategies for creating new ones.

본 연구는 대중가요 작사교육이 여고생의 스트레스 뇌파 및 정서지능에 미치는 효과를 검증하여 대중가요 작사교육의 필요성 및 당위성의 타당한 근거를 제공하고자 하는 데에 그 목적이 있다.
대중가요 속 가사는 언어이자 기호로 해석내용에 따라 의미를 산출하며 대중과 다각적으로 공유되고 있다(최상진 등, 2001:43). 대중가요의 주요 소비층인 청소년 역시 다른 읽기 제재에 비해서도 대중가요 가사를 더욱 친숙하게 느끼고 그 내용에 공감한다(공규택․조운아, 2016:6). 청소년기는 급속한 성장에 따른 심리적․생리적 변화로 정서적 불안과 충동성, 이중성을 보이는 특징이 있는데(박소영, 2017:1; 김형희, 2013:3), 그중 여학생의 경우 남학생보다 음악 감상에 더 많은 시간을 투자하고(통계청, 여성가족부, 2016:27), 심리를 대처하는 요인으로 음악을 활용하는 성향이 있음을 미루어 볼 때(이정윤 등, 2015:15; Miranda & Claes, 2009:229), 친숙하고 선호하는 제재를 활용한 대중가요 작사교육은 청소년기 여고생에게 그 효과성이 더욱 드러날 것이라 예상한다. 이에 본 연구는 인지적 도제 이론을 바탕으로 한 10주간의 작사교육 프로그램을 고안하였고 프로그램의 전후 효과 차이를 검증하기 위해 정서지능과 스트레스 뇌파 차이를 분석하였다.
대상자는 서울시 소재 S 여자 고등학교 2학년 여고생으로 실험군 22명 대조군 19명이다. 실험군에 할당된 대중가요 작사교육은 2021년 3월부터 7월까지 주 1회, 50분씩 총 10회기를 실시하였다. 수집한 뇌파 데이터는 선형 분석법을 사용한 고속 푸리에 변환(FFT)을 통한 주파수 계열 파워 스펙트럼 분석법을 활용하였으며, IBM SPSS/WIN 25.0 통계 프로그램을 이용하여 통계처리 하였다. 대중가요 작사교육 전후 집단 간의 효과 차이는 비모수 통계 검정인 Mann-Whitney와 Wilcoxon Signed rank test를 실시하였다.
연구결과, 대중가요 작사교육 전후 여고생의 스트레스 뇌파 및 정서지능에 유의미한 차이가 나타났다.
첫째, 대중가요 작사교육 전후 집단 간의 생리학적 지표인 스트레스 뇌파 분석 결과, ‘육체적 긴장과 스트레스 좌․우’와 ‘정신적 산만과 스트레스 좌․우’ 값이 감소되었다. 둘째, 대중가요 작사교육 전후 집단 간 정서지능의 차이가 나타났으며, 정서지능의 하위영역 중 ‘감정이입’, ‘사고촉진’, ‘정서조절’, ‘정서활용’ 영역에서 유의미한 향상이 있었다.
본 연구는 아직 많이 이루어지지 않은 대중음악교육의 뇌과학적 탐색 연구라는 관점에서 가치가 있으며, 나아가 대중음악 분야에 과학적 기반을 다지는 데에 그 의의가 있다.


This study aims to validate the necessity and justification of popular song lyric education by verifying the effect of popular song lyric education on stress-related brainwaves and the emotional intelligence of female high school students.
Lyrics in popular songs are language and symbols that create meaning based on their interpretation. The meaning is shared with the public in various ways (Choi Sang-jin, 2001). Adolescents, the primary consumers of popular music, also feel more familiar with pop lyrics than other reading materials. They relate to their contents (Gong Gyu-taek & Cho Woon-ah 2016). Adolescents tend to show emotional anxiety, impulsiveness, and duality due to psychological and physiological changes from rapid growth (Park So-young 2017, Kim Hyung-hee 2013). Considering that female students spend more time listening to music than male students (Lee Jung-yoon, 2014:15; Miranda & Claes, 2009:229), popular song lyric education using familiar and preferred elements might be effective for female adolescent high school students. A 10-week-lyric education program was devised based on cognitive apprenticeship theory. It was evaluated for scientific validity by examining high school female students’ emotional intelligence. Stress brainwaves were compared before and after popular song lyric education to confirm differences before and after popular song lyric education.
The study were 2nd-grade female high school students at S high school in Seoul. The survey was administered by dividing them into 22 comparison groups who participated in popular song lyric education and 19 who did not. The popular song lyric education was conducted over 10 sessions once a week for 50 minutes from March to July 2021. The collected EEG data used the frequency series power spectrum analysis method by fast Fourier transform (FFT) using linear analysis and statistical processing. The IBM SPSS/WIN Version 25.0 program was used for calculations. Effectiveness differences between the groups before and after popular song lyric education was performed using Mann-Whitney and Wilcoxon Signed rank test.
The results showed significant differences in stress brainwaves and emotional intelligence.
First, stress brainwave analysis, after popular song lyric education, the values of ‘physical tension and stress left and right’ and psychological distraction and stress left and right’ were decreased. Second, differences in linguistic intelligence were detected between groups before and after popular song lyric education. Finally, significant improvements were shown in the fields of ‘emotional engagement,’ ‘thinking promotion,’ ‘emotional control,’ and ‘emotional utilization,’ among other sub-areas.
The study clarifies the role of neuroscience’s exploration of popular music education. However, further research is required to build a meaningful scientific foundation for understanding popular music’s effects on the brain.

Over twenty-five years have elapsed since Korean popular music (K-pop) has become popular outside South Korea. As it has become a global cultural phenomenon, the way K-pop fans support K-pop has also changed. K-pop fans unilaterally supported their music in the 1990s. However, K-pop fandom today forms a mutually inspired and admiring partnership with their favorite stars. This paper examines the evolution of K-pop fandom from the 1990s to the present by focusing on how it transforms from an example of a para-social interaction as proposed by Horton and Wohl to an example of Partha Chatterjee’s civil society. Furthermore, the author suggests that K-pop fandom today can be understood as an example of what Michael Warner refers to as a public.


케이팝이 세계인의 이목을 끌기 시작한 지 25년이 넘었다. 케이팝이 세계적 문화 현상으로 변화하면서 이를 향유하는 팬들의 방식 또한 변모했다. 예컨대, 1990년대 아이돌을 향한 팬들의 일방적인 지지가 일반적이었다면, 현재 케이팝 팬들은 자신의 좋아하는 스타들과 적극적인 소통과 상호 관계를 통해 파트너쉽을 구축하고 있다. 본 논문은 1990년대부터 현재까지 케이팝을 향유하는 팬들의 방식이 어떻게 변했는지 살펴보고, 오늘날 케이팝 팬덤이 왜 Horton과 Wohl이 개념화 한 para-social interaction이 아닌 Chatterjee가 기술한 civil society의 한 예로 이해할 수 있는지 알아볼 것이다. 나아가 오늘날 케이팝 팬덤이 Warner의 a public 개념에 어떻게 부합하는지도 살펴본다.

가사와 선율로 대중들과 소통하는 보컬은 가사와 선율을 효과적으로 전달하기 위해 가사에 대한 집중도 향상과 가사를 통한 감정 전달력이 높아야 한다. 본 논문은 보컬의 감정 표현력 및 전달력 향상을 위해 노래 가사 감정 분석법을 개발하고 이를 활용하여 가사 속 정서를 파악할 수 있도록 하는 것에 목적을 둔다. 노래 가사 감정 분석 프로그램을 위한 이론으로는 심리학자 로버트 플루치크(Robert Plutchik)의 감정의 바퀴(Emotions of Wheel)를 활용하여 가사 분석 프로그램을 설계하였다. 참여자들은 가창곡의 형식에 따라 두 가지 혼합 정서를 선택하였고, 이를 통해 가창자가 가사에서 표현해야 할 감정을 이해할 수 있도록 하였다. 실용음악학과 보컬 전공에 재학 중인 학생들을 대상으로 해당 프로그램을 적용한 결과, 참여자들은 가사 속 의미에 대한 이해도를 향상시킬 수 있었으며, 가사와 감정에 대한 집중력 또한 향상되는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 연구 결과는 사전 설문, 문답형식의 답변서, 그리고 효과성에 대한 인터뷰를 통해 도출되었다.


Singing communicates with the public through lyrics and melody. However, to effectively deliver lyrics and melody, concentration and the ability to convey emotions must be high. This thesis aims to develop a method of emotion analysis for song lyrics to improve vocal music’s emotional expression and delivery power. Furthermore, it will use it to understand the emotions conveyed by the lyrics.
The lyrics analysis program used psychologist Robert Plutchik‘s as its theoretical underpinning. The participants could understand the emotions the singer should express in the lyrics through a mixture of two emotions selected according to the song’s form. The By applying the program to students enrolled in the Department of Applied Music and Vocal Major, the participants improved their understanding of the meaning of the lyrics. Moreover, their concentration on lyrics and emotions also improved.

케이팝이 음악이라는 인식에도 불구하고, 케이팝 팬들에게 있어서는 듣는 것만큼이나 그 음악에 맞춰 춤을 추는 것도 중요하다. 뿐만 아니라 케이팝 댄스 퍼포먼스는 전 세계의 팬들 사이에서 자신들의 팬 정체성을 표현하는 주요 방법이 되었다. 케이팝 댄스도 힙합과 재즈 등 미국의 대중 무용이 지배하고 있는 세계 대중무용의 문화 지도를 서서히 변화시키고 있지만, 동시에 케이팝 댄스가 하나의 장르가 될 수 있는지에 대해서는 여전히 논란이 있다. 이와 관련해 ‘The Pengpai(澎湃新闻)’라는 신문에서 미국 샌디에이고 주립대학교 무용과 오주연 (Chuyun Oh) 교수와 특별 인터뷰를 진행했다.
오주연 박사는 텍사스 주립대학교(어스틴)에서 “K-popscape: Gender Fluidity and Racial Hybridity in Transnational Korean Pop Dance”라는 제목의 논문으로 박사학위를 받았다. 다수의 대표적인 케이팝 뮤직비디오에서 담긴 춤을 심층 분석한 이 논문은 미국에서 케이팝 댄스를 주제로 한 최초의 박사학위 논문이 되었다. 최근 그녀의 K-pop Dance: Fandoming Yourself on Social Media가 출판사 루틀리지(Routeledge)를 통해 출간되었는데, 이는 케이팝 댄스에 대한 영어권 최초의 연구서라는 기록을 세웠다. 7월 1일 출간과 동시에 미국 아마존 커뮤니케이션과 대중 춤 두 부문에서 신간 1위에 오르기도 하였다. 한국어와 중국어 번역도 계획 중에 있다.
케이팝 댄스가 독립된 춤 장르로 간주될 수 있는가? 문화 간 소통의 형태로서 케이팝 댄스는 특별히 중요한가? 큰 관점에서 볼 때 춤이 인간의 보편적인 표현이지만, 춤에서 볼 수 있는 신체적 표현을 경시하고 정신을 매개하는 언어적 표현에 주의를 기울이는 서양의 “신체-정신”의 이분법적 인식의 영향으로 춤 연구는 상대적으로 주변적인 학문에 머물러 있다. The Pengpai에서는 발레와 현대 무용를 겸하는 무용가이자 무용 연구가로서 “신체-정신”의 이원론에 대한 그녀의 견해는 무엇이며, 케이팝 댄스를 비롯한 춤 연구가 이러한 이분법적 인식에 문제제기를 할 수 있는 잠재력이 가진다고 생각하는지에 대해서도 들어 보았다.
